Magnificent vintage Neoclassical mythological winged mermaid candelabra styled golden table lamp. Representing a Melusine mermaid atop a column and well detailed pedestal that is holding a torch of candles decorated with grapes. Made for two standard light bulbs. Made in the 80s by The Bombay Company.
The lamp is 87 cm high and the lamp shade as 41 cm of diameter.
Melusine or Melusina is a figure of European folklore, a female spirit of water, holy well or river. She is usually depicted as a woman who is a serpent or fish from the waist down (much like a mermaid or a lamia). She is also sometimes illustrated with wings, two tails, or both. Her legends are especially connected with the northern and western areas of Europe.
